Insulative paints applied as thermal barrier coatings in buildings are being developed as a novel way to improve thermal management of the building envelope. These paints help improve overall efficiency by reducing heat lose to the surrounding environment. These paints act in a similar way to traditional insulation, but benefit from being able to be applied as a coating on various material surfaces at a relatively thin formfactor. To obtain the desired insulative performance, low thermal conductivity fillers such as aerogels nanoparticles can be incorporated into the paint. While a holistic approach to material characterization is important, thermal conductivity is viewed as a critical performance metric.
This webinar will highlight characterization of these insulative paints as well as a range of traditional insulations materials with a spotlight on thermal performance. An overview of test methods and important testing considerations will be discussed. C-Therm’s Trident platform with a focus on the Modified Transient Plane Source (MTPS) method will be highlighted as a means of accelerated thermal conductivity testing.
This webinar aired on May 25, 2023 @ 2:00PM GMT-4.
