Elementum 3D is a developer and commercial supplier of additive manufacturing materials and processes, specializing in the creation of previously unprintable advanced metals, composites, and ceramics. Elementum3D’s A6061-RAM2 T6 heat-treated aluminum material is produced by laser powder bed fusion additive manufacturing. This material is based on a 6061 aluminum alloy matrix with 2 volume percent ceramic to make the material printable and improve mechanical properties. As this material is a composite, it is expected that the thermal conductivity will be slightly below a wrought alloy without the ceramic reinforcement.
It has been determined a transient thermal conductivity test provides more accurate measurements for real usage cases for composite materials compared with the laser flash method.
The aluminum blocks (182 W/mK) are a commercial wrought 6061 T6 heat-treated material.
The copper cylinders (375 W/mK) are Elementum 3D’s AMCopper-100 (commercially pure copper) specimens printed by laser powder bed fusion additive manufacturing and annealed.
3 tests of each sample set were completed to check the relative standard deviation (repeatability/precision) of the data.
