In-Line Quality Assurance of Sediment Detection in 2K Polymer Adhesives with Thermal Effusivity Sensors in Dispensing Equipment

In automotive electronics production, a wide portfolio of polymer materials is used for different applications, depending on their use case. These applications are mainly separated into gluing and sealing, potting, and conformal coating technologies depending on the requirement of the product and its specific design. In all cases, the increased production of electric vehicles (EVs) and the continued growth of the electronics industry is driving demand for larger volumes of these materials, which can exacerbate material quality issues when moving from optimal lab conditions to production at scale. Within the main technologies, there is a wide range of polymer-based materials available, which are feasible for different polymer technologies, as well as product and environmental requirements. The most common base polymers are silicones, polyurethanes, epoxides, and acrylates. As silicones deliver the highest temperature stability, as well as good reliability, they are often used for sealing, potting, and special applications like thermal interface materials, which are also known as gap fillers.
