How to Characterize the Thermal Performance of Heat Transfer Fluids

Presented by Arya Hakimian

Heat transfer fluids are commonly used in many electric vehicle (EV) applications to effectively dissipate excess heat generated from various components. Specialized heat transfer fluids have been developed for use in many specific cases, one being immersion cooling. This process involves the immersion of the battery cells into dielectric heat transfer fluids. This innovative thermal management approach used in EVs has many benefits such as increased battery density and safety. An important property in determining the effectiveness of the heat transfer fluid is the thermal conductivity, which can be tested in many ways.

During this webinar our leading application scientist will highlight some of specific use cases for heat transfer fluids in EVs with the spotlight on the thermal performance of these fluids. An overview of the test methods and important testing considerations will be discussed. C-Therm’s Trident™ platform with a focus on Transient Hot Wire (THW) method will be highlighted as powerful tool for thermal conductivity characterization of heat transfer fluids.
