Trident™ Application Highlight: Thermal Conductivity of Concrete and Cementitious Materials

This document highlights the use of the Transient Plane Source (TPS) method to characterize the bulk thermal conductivity of concrete Measurements were performed using the Transient Plane Source (TPS) method on the CTherm Trident Thermal Conductivity Instrument. Two matched concrete sample faces were prepared, and the sensor was sandwiched between them without a contact agent. Between each test, the sample was allowed to return to thermal equilibrium, which for most concrete samples takes approximately 5 to 10 minutes. Ten measurements were recorded at different locations across the sample.
