Evaluation and Characterization of Mixed Lubricant Systems Based on Ratios of Magnesium Stearate Polymorphs

Commercially available Magnesium stearate (MgSt) contains mixtures of the crystalline forms in unknown ratios. To date, no known study has investigated the properties of known ratios of binary or ternary MgSt polymorphs. This study focused on the effects of binary combination of neat polymorphs of Magnesium stearate as compared to singular polymorphs when used as lubricants in powder blends. New predictor of lubrication effectiveness, lubricity index, was obtained for various lubricant ratios. This study also offers new applications for mixed (binary) ratios of MgSt polymorphs.
