Exploring the Thermal Analysis of Metal Organic Frameworks

The thermal conductivity of metal- organic frameworks (MOFs) is a key property that influences how these materials perform in applications such as carbon capture, catalysis, and thermal insulation. Because MOFs are highly porous, their ability to transfer heat is typically very low and this behavior is closely tied to their pore structure. As pore size increases, there are fewer solid pathways for heat to travel through, resulting in greater phonon scattering and a corresponding decrease in thermal conductivity. Understanding and accurately measuring this relationship is critical for tailoring MOFs to specific functions.

C-Therm’s Modified Transient Plane Source (MTPS) technique offers the most effective and reliable method for characterizing the thermal conductivity of MOFs. The MTPS enables rapid, non-destructive measurement of low-conductivity materials with high precision, providing essential insight into how framework architecture and pore size govern heat transport in advanced porous materials.
